In a month's time I will be starting my Master of Teaching. This will give me the opportunity to teach music in schools to students of all ages. I found something on FaceBook that resonated with me and it somewhat put teacher down. It stated that teachers do not teach lessons that are needed for life, but instead teach by a syllabus or a bureaucratic script.

Teaching by a syllabus is what is done, however it is not the only thing that is taught in classrooms. I have taught students music for almost four years now and if I have learnt one thing, it is not what I teach that makes the difference but what the relationship as teacher and student means to them. This is why I am studying to be a music teacher. Not necessarily to only teach music but to cultivate students on a level that resonates to inspire and to grow.

The people that you meet are where you learn lifes lessons, not in a syllabus.
